WANGO Films Company Profile
Originally formed in 2005, WANGO Films is an innovative production company specializing in the creation of anything that could be defined as WANGO! To date the company has focused on comedic feature film, but there are some WANGO episodic and dramatic content coming up in the not too distant future.
WANGO Films first two features, the cult comedy Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser, and 70’s style comedy GravyTrain, have collectively garnered international acclaim and numerous awards from around the globe and were released theatrically by Alliance Films in Canada.
The third WANGO Feature, Dead Before Dawn 3D, is the first fully Canadian Feature Film to be shot in Stereoscopic 3D. The film won the Perron Crystal Award in Liege, Belgium for its achievements in 3D (Best Independent 3D Feature) and was Closing Night Film at the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival (Toronto International Film Festival for Teens – movies programmed by teens, for teens). The film also participated in Telefilm’s Perspective Canada Screenings in Cannes and Tokyo and is being released theatrically around the world, including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Russia, the Middle East and more.
Whatever the platform or genre, it is our primary objective at WANGO Films to see that all of our productions are released using fresh, unique, alternative promotional and advertising campaigns aimed directly towards our target market.
WANGO Films currently has numerous projects in development and is shooting its next Feature in the fall of 2013.
April Mullen - Producer/Director
April Mullen hails from Niagara Falls, Canada and her first ever WANGO experience came when she and her pet cat Chucky went over the falls in a wooden barrel supplied by her Father’s Garden Market. Skilled both in front and behind the camera, April is a maverick filmmaker whose been producing and directing for ten years and acting for over fifteen years.
April co-founded WANGO Films in 2005, producing and directing every one of the company’s feature films to date. WANGO’s first two feature films, Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser and GravyTrain, were both theatrically released in Canada and picked up by Alliance Films for distribution. Directing the company’s latest feature, Dead Before Dawn 3D, confirms April as the youngest person and first female to ever direct a live action stereoscopic 3D Feature Film.
As a Producer, April has participated in a number of major co-production markets and producer labs from around the world including: Cannes, Belinale, TIFF, Mip and Tokyo TIFFcom.
Tim Doiron – Producer/Writer
Born and raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, Tim first experienced a state of WANGO-NESS after he stuck a fork in a light socket as a child and his spirit left his body. Delving deeply into the creative process, Tim has been a writer, producer and performer in the world of theatre and film for over fifteen years.
In 2005, Tim co-founded WANGO Films, and has written and produced every one of the company’s feature films to date. WANGO’s first two feature films, Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser and GravyTrain, were seen in festivals worldwide, picked up by Alliance Films for distribution and theatrically released in Canada. WANGO’s third feature, Dead Before Dawn 3D, is the first fully Canadian Feature Film to be shot in Stereoscopic 3D and was awarded the Perron Crystal Award by the 3D Stereo Media Summit in Liege, Belgium for its achievements in 3D (Best Independent 3D Feature).
